Mitsubishi Motors and Hydro-Quebec conducts largest EV trial in Canada to date
Largest electric vehicle trial in Canada
Montréal, June 6, 2011 – Hydro-Québec is pleased to announce that 15 Mitsubishi i MiEVs were delivered this morning to the Boucherville businesses selected for the second phase of the largest electric vehicle trial in Canada.
“We are delighted with the response we’ve received from Boucherville businesses. This second phase brings us to the very heart of the project, focusing on the needs of businesses and their employees who work in Boucherville,” noted Thierry Vandal, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hydro-Québec.
Coordinated by Hydro-Québec, the road trials are designed to study users' charging habits, driving experience and overall satisfaction as well as vehicle behavior when interfaced with the electric grid.
“I hope that drivers working for the businesses selected in the second phase will be as delighted as I am to be driving an i MIEV! The project has not only caught the attention of Boucherville businesses, but also sparked considerable interest among citizens," declared Jean Martel, Mayor of Boucherville and spokesperson for the project’s institutional users.
"Our partnership with Hydro-Québec and our joint pilot project have met with much success over the last four months," said Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. The data collected and monthly reports have demonstrated that the i-MiEV technology is well suited to the Canadian market. "The second phase of our program will help us better understand all-electric vehicles and will give them more visibility, allowing Québecers to become more familiar with this technology."

Saanich Charges Ahead with First Electric Car in Region [CA]
Saanich Charges Ahead with First Electric Car in Region
Saanich – Today the District of Saanich and Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) are pleased to announce a partnership to pilot the all-electric zero-tailpipe emissions Mitsubishi i-MiEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle). The municipality will test the i-MiEV to evaluate the vehicle’s performance, range of distance, and function within a municipal fleet. The i-MiEV will be available to consumers later this year.
The i-MiEV can go up to 120 kilometres on a single charge, has the top speed and safety ratings of current vehicles and can completely recharge on a standard household 120V outlet in 13 hours. The Municipality has installed a 240V charging station at the Saanich Hall which provides a full charge in only 6 hours.
The Municipality sees the arrival of electric vehicles as the beginning of a significant shift in vehicle use and a key component of the Saanich Climate Action Plan. The Municipality set a 2020 target of 5,000 electric vehicles in the community when the Plan was passed by Council in April 2010 and a 33% reduction target in community greenhouse gas emissions. Saanich cars, trucks and SUV’s emit over 220,000 tonnes of emissions each year which represents 54% of Saanich’s total emissions.

THE SOUTH WEST BOROUGH GETS AN ELECTRIC CAR [CA]
THE SOUTH WEST BOROUGH GETS AN ELECTRIC CAR!
ITS SPEED: UP TO 120 KM/H
A move that is part of the vision for sustainable development
Montreal, January 26th, 2011 – Today, South West borough Mayor Benoit Dorais unveiled the borough’s brand new electric car, a Mitsubishi i-MiEV. “The South West borough is the first borough in Montreal with an entirely electric car that can be driven on any road, including the highway, as it can reach speeds of 120 km/h. Our car will turn heads with its unique styling that is customized to the borough”, said the Mayor.
Ten times cheaper than a gasoline car
The South West borough negotiated a partnership with Mitsubishi Canada to test the vehicle. Using an i-MiEV could be ten times cheaper than using a gasoline-propelled vehicle. Over the next year, the i-MiEV will be used by an employee who travels approximately 12 000 km per year in start-and-go traffic. The experiment will allow us to measure the savings both on gas and on maintenance, while reducing to zero greenhouse gas emissions and used oils. The car will be charged on a 120-volt circuit within the borough road network. The i-MiEV is propelled by a lithium-ion battery instead of a gasoline engine, and is therefore, very quiet. In addition, it can travel approximately 120 km on one charge.
Other green measures
Real estate developers are encouraged to plan for electrical charge ports for drivers who will turn to green transportation in the near future. The new Pixcom building on Saint-Patrick Street will be the first one to integrate an electrical charge port. “In the last year, we have started several projects to improve air quality and reduce heat islands. This car is part of our vision for sustainable development for the borough. We start 2011 with a palpable move that adds to the other ecological measures we are already taking”, added Mayor Dorais.
The borough took many additional measures, including outfitting 65 % of its heavy and light truck fleet with off-switches that activate after idling for 10 minutes, therefore reducing CO2 production. Two of the three borough’s Zambonis are electric and the third will be converted within the next few weeks. In addition, the borough took part in the In Town without my car! event, closing a section of the Atwater Avenue, and borough meetings are now paperless. Finally, within the heat island reduction project in the Saint-Pierre collector, citizens will have access to a green area where cars will have to yield to pedestrians.
The South West borough will soon start a contest to name the car.

MMSCAN unveils Concept PX-MiEV Electric Vehicle Plug-in Hybrid targeted for 2013 launch [CA]
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. unveils Concept PX-MiEV Electric Vehicle
Plug-in Hybrid targeted for 2013 launch
MONTREAL, QC – (January 13, 2011) – Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) unveiled it’s latest electric concept vehicle, the PX-MiEV, today at the 2011 Montreal International Auto Show. The PX-MiEV is Mitsubishi’s most advanced electric vehicle to date and represents the culmination of 40 years of technological development and research.
“The concept PX-MiEV is the next step for Mitsubishi in our goal of becoming a leader in electric vehicles,” said Tomoki Yanagawa, VP of Sales, Marketing & Corporate Planning of MMSCAN. “More importantly for drivers, this advanced concept car will start appearing in driveways across North America as early as 2013.”
A plug-in hybrid, the Concept PX-MiEV combines an extended cruising range with vastly improved performance over gasoline only vehicles with a fuel economy of 2 liters per 100 kilometers.
“The PX-MiEV is primarily propelled by two electric motors, one dedicated to the front wheels and one for the rear wheels. When extra speed, power or distance is required; a 1.6 L gasoline engine is ready to provide assistance,” said Tomoki Yanagawa.
The All Wheel Drive PX-MiEV is equipped with several drive modes including a Regenerative Mode where the front and rear motors act as generators to charge the battery when the car is coming to a stop or descending a long slope.
One of the car’s most interesting features is the Power Supply Mode. In this setting, the vehicle’s electricity can be used to run household appliances, provide electricity during emergencies or to power equipment during camping trips.
For those in the market for a no emissions vehicle MMSCAN also unveiled the left hand drive version of the i-MiEV, its first all-electric production vehicle that is currently on sale in Japan, New Zealand and Europe.
“The i-MiEV will be available to Canadian consumers in late 2011,” said Tomoki Yanagawa, VP Sales, Marketing & Corporate Planning, MMSCAN.
