Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Commences Shipment of
Russian-produced All-new Outlander SUV

Tokyo, December 4, 2012 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced that it has commenced shipment of the all-new Outlander SUV assembled at PCMA Rus*1 from December 3.

The all-new Outlander was first released to the Russian market in July of this year, being exported from Japan. The model has already been a great hit in Russia, and it is expected that the local production that will be available at PCMA Rus will enable MMC to more efficiently bring new Outlanders to a rapidly growing customer base.

The PCMA Rus plant was opened in April 2010 and had been producing the Peugeot and Citroën brand C-segment models and SUVs, as well as the previous generation Outlander. In July of this year, full-scale production commenced first with the Peugeot 408, a Peugeot brand C-segment model. This was followed by full-scale assembly of MMC's all-new Outlander which began in November. In 2013, a Citroën brand model will be brought to full-scale production, followed by production of MMC's Pajero Sport.

*1: An assembly plant owned by both PSA Peugeot Citroën (70%) and MMC (30%) located in the Kaluga region, 180km southwest of Moscow.

Sebastien Loeb extends his Citroen WRC contract for 2 more years

Sebastien Loeb will continue in the World Rally Championship for at least another two more seasons after agreeing a deal to remain with the factory Citroen squad until the end of the 2013 season.

Loeb’s future with the French make and, indeed, the WRC has been the subject of considerable speculation in recent months with suggestions that the 37-year-old Frenchman would call time on his rallying career if he captured an eighth world crown this year. He currently leads the standings following his breath-taking victory on Neste Oil Rally Finland last month.

In a statement, Loeb said: “With the arrival of other manufacturers in the championship, the competition is going to get tougher in the years to come. All the more so with the rule changes concerning the starting order coming in in 2012 as all the drivers will be fighting on a level playing field. To take the fight to them I’m putting my trust in Citroen, a team I know inside out and the DS3 WRC, the car that I helped [develop] with Citroen Racing.”

Loeb has been part of the Citroen family since 2001. He claimed his maiden WRC event win with the firm, on Rallye Deutschland, in 2002 and captured his first world crown driving a Citroen Xsara WRC in 2004. To date he has taken 66 victories in the world championship alongside co-driver Daniel Elena, who will continue alongside Loeb for another two seasons.

Solberg stays with Citroen in 2010 [WRC]

Solberg stays with Citroen in 2010

Former World Rally Champion Petter Solberg has confirmed he will drive a Citroen C4 World Rally Car in this year's World Rally Championship.

The decision continues a relationship established last year when Solberg tackled most of the 2009 series in his own privately run Citroen Xsara WRC. He later accepted an offer to drive a Citroen Junior Team C4 WRC on the final two rounds.

Petter Solberg will drive a C4 again in 2010

Solberg: Citroen offer looking best for 2010

Norway's Petter Solberg looks likely to join Kimi Raikkonen as a C4 World Rally Car driver next season, after being made an attractive offer by Citroen.

Solberg, who won the 2003 World Championship with Subaru, tackled most of the 2009 series in a privately entered Xsara WRC, before accepting an offer to drive a Citroen Junior Team C4 WRC for the final two rounds.

With little chance of a manufacturer-funded programme in 2010, Solberg decided to go it alone once again, and try to raise the money himself for a season in a top-level World Rally Car - either a Ford Focus RS WRC or a Citroen C4 WRC.

Kimi Raikkonen to drive with Citroen

Kimi Raikkonen to Citroen - it’s official!

Finland's 2007 Formula One champion Kimi Raikkonen has signed a deal to drive a C4 World Rally Car on 12 rounds of the 2010 World Rally Championship.

This morning's long awaited announcement from Citroen Racing brings an end to weeks of speculation concerning the F1 star's plans for 2010, when he will take a sabbatical from his Grand Prix career.

Raikkonen will drive for Citroen's second squad, the Junior World Rally Team, thanks to backing from Red Bull - one of his personal sponsors from F1. He will be co-driven by fellow Finn Kaj Lindstrom, who previously partnered multiple WRC champion Tommi Makinen. The only rally the pair will miss next year is Rally New Zealand - an event the Junior Team is skipping altogether.

“I always wanted to compete in rally, especially in the World Rally Championship at some point in my career," said Raikkonen. "Thanks to Red Bull, I have the opportunity to drive the best car of the series with the Citroen C4. This is a new but very exciting challenge. For the moment we have a one-year contract and we will see how it goes for the future. I am really looking forward to testing the car and taking the start of the first rally.”

Partnering Raikkonen at the Citroen Junior team in 2010, will be French rising star Sebastien Ogier, 25, who will also drive a Red Bull-backed C4.

Mitsubishi signs agreement to produce Peugeot and Citroen version of i-MiEV

New Step in the Electric Vehicles cooperative agreement between Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and PSA Peugeot Citroën.

Paris/Tokyo, September 4, 2009 Osamu Masuko, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), and Philippe Varin, CEO of PSA Peugeot Citroën, signed today in Paris a cooperative agreement that signifies a new step in their partnership on electric vehicles (EV).

The main points of this cooperative agreement are:

# The development of an EV for the European market based on MMC's Japanese i-MiEV*1 model
# The vehicle is to be sold in Europe, with both Peugeot and Citroën versions
# Production is planned to commence in October 2010 for commercial launch in the European market by the end of 2010.

MMC first launched the new-generation EV i-MiEV in Japan in June, and will begin global sales of the right-hand drive vehicle this year. MMC has plans to expand rollout of the i-MiEV in left-hand drive markets in fiscal year 2010.

For PSA Peugeot Citroën this new EV will further enrich its range of low-emission vehicles; along with its hybrid diesel technology to be launched in 2011 on the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 and Citroën DS5 HYbrid4, and a Plug-In HYbrid4 diesel in 2012, PSA Peugeot Citroën confirms its aim to be a step ahead in pioneering vehicles with low CO2 emissions.

Petter Solberg to run his own team with a Citroen Xsara in 2009

26/1/09
Petter Solberg confirms Citroen comeback

Citroen Xsara WRC 2 run by Kronos Team for Sebastien Loeb

Petter Solberg will drive a privately owned 2006 specification Citroen Xsara WRC on Rally Norway and is planning on tackling the complete 2009 WRC season from then on.

The 2003 World Champion was left without a drive this year after his previous team, Subaru, pulled out of the series at the end of last year. And with no vacancies at the Ford or Citroen factory teams it looked like Petter might face at least one season on the sidelines before another manufacturer deal could be done.

However this afternoon, speaking to exclusively to wrc.com, Solberg said he intends to run his own team for up to 11 rounds this year, to keep up his rally knowledge and buy more time to negotiate a paid drive for 2010.

“I’ll be in the Xsara for Rally Norway and the plan is to do the whole championship from then - although not necessarily with the same car,” said Petter. “Everything I’m doing is being done with 2010 in mind. We’ll start with Norway, with my own team, but I haven’t got the entire 2009 season together yet. I’ve put this deal together in twenty days, and I expect things will change through the season. Nobody knows what the future will bring but I’m happy with what we’ve got for the short term.

“Okay, I know many people think I’m crazy for doing what I’m doing. Would Marcus Gronholm, Tommi Makinen or Colin McRae have done what I’m doing now? - I don’t think so,” he added.

Solberg has tested the Xsara just once, on snow, and described the experience as ‘good fun’. He wouldn’t be drawn on comparisons with the Subaru Impreza - saying he’d have to wait until Norway to see how competitive the car would be.

Rumours earlier this month suggested Solberg might drive for a new Proton WRC team in 2010, and might make a few appearances this year in the Malaysian company’s Super 2000 specification Satira.

Petter refused to discuss specifics today but said the future was looking bright: “I have had a lot of talks with many manufacturers and things are looking very good for 2010 - but let’s deal with that as it comes. For now I’m free to do whatever I want - and that’s the main thing here. As soon as I get something for the future of course I will give it 110 per cent.”

Hirvonen wins Japan but Loeb wins overall championship

Hirvonen wins Rally Japan but Loeb secures the Championship

Mikko Hirvonen completed the short final stage in Sapporo this afternoon to take victory on Rally Japan, while third place for Sebastien Loeb was enough to secure him the 2008 WRC drivers’ title.

Hirvonen crossed the finish line with a winning margin of 31.1sec but even the best possible result this weekend wasn’t enough to prevent Loeb sealing the series. However the Finn was quick to pay tribute to his rival at the end of the stage: “That’s it, it’s over. But okay, he won 10 events before coming here so he deserves it. I did all I could. Now we need to try again next year.”

After their heart-stopping spin on the penultimate stage, Loeb and his co-driver Daniel Elena climbed onto the roof of their C4 at the finish control, waving a French flag in celebration. “It’s incredible!” said Loeb. “But that was a terrible rally - it couldn’t have been trickier! It’s a great moment. It’s perfect. I’m so relieved this weekend is over now. Last year Daniel and I equalled the record with four wins, so being the only ones to do five we are very happy!”

Jari-Matti Latvala finished second, helping Ford to a maximum 18 point haul in the manufacturers’ championship, and ensuring the battle would go to the final round in Wales. “It’s very good for the team and very good for me,” he said. “After such a bad time in August I can be happy. There was a time when our good result in Turkey seemed a long way away, but now I can be happy again.”

Chris Atkinson finished fourth in his Subaru World Rally Team Impreza WRC2008, while the Suzuki World Rally Team celebrated its best ever result with sixth and seventh. “It’s been fantastic,” said P-G Andersson, who was sixth. We made a great start but after losing the tyre yesterday I though that was it - but we got ourselves together and pushed hard again today.” Toni Gardemeister said: “I’m really happy this rally is over - it’s not so nice at all! But it was a good result for our team for sure.”

Matthew Wilson brought his Stobart VK M-Sport Ford Focus to the finish in seventh place, while Subaru driver Petter Solberg was eighth, the last points winning place.

MMC and Peugeot lay first foundation stone in new plant

PSA Peugeot Citroën and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation lay the first foundation stone of their joint plant at Kaluga (Russia)

Kaluga, 10 June 2008 — Roland Vardanega, Member of the Managing Board and Executive Vice President, Manufacturing and Components, of PSA Peugeot Citroën and Osamu Masuko, President of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) have officially laid the first foundation stone of their joint plant in Russia, located at Kaluga, 180km south-west of Moscow.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Mr Anatoli Artamonov, Governor of the region of Kaluga, and several hundred guests.

The joint plant held 70% by PSA Peugeot Citroën and 30% by MMC will start producing mid-range (C segment) models, as of 2011, for Peugeot and Citroën and mid-range SUVs for the 3 brands. These models will be destined for the Russian automobile market.

The annual production capacity of the plant will be 160,000 units split 110,000 segment C vehicles and 50,000 SUV. Over time, its capacity may be increased to 300,000 units to meet the expected growth of the Russian market.

The plant will employ about 3,000 people and the joint initial investment for the two partners represents €470 million.

Didier Aleton of PSA Peugeot Citroën, former Director of the Russia project, has been appointed Managing Director of the new joint venture. He will oversee the operational management of the project.

For Roland Vardanega, this ceremony marks "the starting point of a tremendous long-term manufacturing project on a highly-promising market, with a partnership based on sharing best practice to reinforce mutual efficiency".

For his part, Osamu Masuko declared that "this project is the outcome of over a year's intense discussions and will lead to even deeper technical exchanges, rich in high potentiality for the two automobile groups".

Loeb wins in Argentina... again

Sébastien Loeb, Daniel Elena and their Citroën C4 WRC overcame the three days of rain, fog and treacherous conditions that were thrown at them during the 2008 Rally Argentina to end the fiercely fought battle on top spot. The mud didn’t deter the spectators from turning out in their usual high numbers as Dani Sordo and Marc Martí joined their team-mates on the podium in third place. The visit to South America turned out to be highly successful for Citroën-Total, with Sébastien taking control in the Drivers’ championship, while Citroën is now just three points short of the lead in the Manufacturers’ standings.

The final leg of the event was once again marked by wet weather, with fog also making an appearance high in the mountains of the ’Giulio Cesare’ and ’El Condor’ tests. These were the only true stages of the day before one last visit to the super-special in Córdoba and the finish ceremony in Villa Carlos Paz.

Just like Diego Maradona in the days when he starred with the N°10 jersey in Argentina’s national soccer squad, Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena deftly dribbled round the weekend’s countless pitfalls to put their rivals on the wrong foot as they powered home to victory with their Citroën C4 WRC. During Thursday’s shakedown session, as guest passenger alongside Seb, ’El Pibe de Oro’ had been able to see at first hand that the defending World Champion is not just strong technically but also that it’s not only with a ball that a top sportsman can juggle!

One of the challenges faced by Seb over the three days was having to run on Pirelli tyres which, in keeping with the regulations, turned out to be too hard for the wet conditions. Along with near-zero grip, crews often had to contend with extremely low visibility, too, so it’s no surprise that Sébastien and Daniel were delighted with their 39th world class win. "Believe me, it wasn’t easy," admitted Seb. "Given the delicate conditions, we had to stay doubly concentrated from start to finish. We also benefited from a faultless performance from our Citroën C4 which was once again competitive and reliable. Before coming here, we had been hoping that Rally Argentina would enable us to take the lead in the Drivers championship and score points for Citroën, and that’s what we’ve done!" Today’s result is Citroën’s fifth straight success in Argentina, while Sébastien has become the most successful driver ever on the South American fixture with a score of four consecutive wins to his name.

"It would have been so easy to get caught out," remarked Dani Sordo before the podium ceremony. "It really has been a difficult event: a single bend could have compromised all the good work put in by everyone in the team and the chance for Citroën to close the gap in the championship. I am please to have finished third and my times were on a par with what I was hoping for."

With two cars on the podium, Sébastien Loeb now on top of the Drivers’ championship and Citroën closer to the lead in the Manufacturers’ standings, Olivier Quesnel was also understandably delighted with the way the weekend turned out. "It’s an excellent result for us. When you see how the event unfolded, it clearly wasn’t an easy rally, yet both our crews figured amongst the few who didn’t put a foot wrong. Apart from the steering rack problem which slowed Dani on Friday, we didn’t have any mechanical trouble either. The combination of two such sure-footed drivers and the reliability of the C4 has enabled us to go top in the Drivers’ standings and also make up much of our deficit in the Manufacturers’ points table. It’s now up to us to keep up the hard work in order to leave nothing to chance with a view to repeating the same sort of performance in Jordan, which is the next round. I would also like to congratulate Conrad Rautenbach and David Senior whose fine run took them to fourth overall with their Citroën C4 WRC run by PH Sport with support from Citroën Sport Technologies technicians. Conrad scored his first WRC points in an event that was far from straightforward given the conditions."

Mitsubishi Motors transfers production of SUV for PSA Peugeot Citroen

Mitsubishi Motors transfers production of SUV for PSA Peugeot Citroen

Tokyo, March 27, 2008— Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announces today that it has decided to transfer production of all EU-bound SUVs it supplies to PSA Peugeot Citroen from its Mizushima Plant (Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture), where they are currently built, to its European production hub, Netherlands Car B.V. ("NedCar", Born, The Netherlands).

The transfer will be effective as of January 2009.

This decision was driven by MMC's desire to optimize its production capacities according to demand for each model, minimizing missed sales opportunities.

A 100% Mitsubishi Motors facility, NedCar currently builds the European Colt family of compact cars. From August 2008, NedCar will add production of the Outlander SUV.

In parallel, production of the non EU-bound PSA Peugeot Citroen SUVs will be transferred to MMC's Nagoya Plant (Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture), starting November 2008.
