Further Step for PCMA Rus, with the Start of Production of SUVs
Paris / Tokyo, September 17th, 2010 - PSA Peugeot Citroën (PSA) and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announce the start of production of the Citroën C-Crosser, Peugeot 4007 and Mitsubishi Outlander SUV models at PCMA Rus, their joint plant located at Kaluga, 180 km southwest of Moscow, Russia.
After the launch of C-segment vehicles (with Peugeot 308 in April and Citroen C4 in July) the Kaluga-based factory of PSA and MMC is now starting to ramp up its production of SUVs for the three brands.

Inaugurated in April by Mr. Anatoly Artamonov, Governor of the Region of Kaluga, Phillippe Varin, Chairman of the Managing Board of PSA, and Takashi Nishioka, Chairman of MMC, the factory has already assembled 11,000 vehicles.

As a result of a €470 Million investment, this factory has been able to implement production and quality processes equivalent to those in operations in any of the PSA and MMC factories, and the plant will be fully operational in 2012.

With 400 staff currently, the Kaluga factory has become a key contributor to the local economy and is another demonstration of the successful policy led by the Governor of Kaluga Region to develop an industrial cluster southwest of Moscow.

With local production of the Citroën C-Crosser, Peugeot 4007 and Mitsubishi Outlander both PSA and MMC will be able to respond quickly to the needs of Russian customers, thereby increasing their market presence.

Mitsubishi Motors transfers production of SUV for PSA Peugeot Citroen

Mitsubishi Motors transfers production of SUV for PSA Peugeot Citroen

Tokyo, March 27, 2008— Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announces today that it has decided to transfer production of all EU-bound SUVs it supplies to PSA Peugeot Citroen from its Mizushima Plant (Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture), where they are currently built, to its European production hub, Netherlands Car B.V. ("NedCar", Born, The Netherlands).

The transfer will be effective as of January 2009.

This decision was driven by MMC's desire to optimize its production capacities according to demand for each model, minimizing missed sales opportunities.

A 100% Mitsubishi Motors facility, NedCar currently builds the European Colt family of compact cars. From August 2008, NedCar will add production of the Outlander SUV.

In parallel, production of the non EU-bound PSA Peugeot Citroen SUVs will be transferred to MMC's Nagoya Plant (Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture), starting November 2008.

Citroen C-Crosser unveiled, a Mitsubishi Outland...

Citroen adds an extra dimension

Citroën has announced first details of its exciting new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), that is set to add an extra dimension to the French manufacturer’s range when it goes on sale in Europe from summer 2007. The versatile Citroën C-Crosser boasts four-wheel drive capability, exceptional levels of space and comfort, as well as an advanced, fuel efficient HDi diesel engine equipped with environmentally-friendly Diesel Particulate Filter System.

Taking its name from the four-wheel drive concept car that Citroën first displayed at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new C-Crosser’s elegant proportions (4.64m long, 1.81m wide and 1.73m high including roof bars) and powerfully sculpted design lines envelop sufficient interior space to seat up to seven passengers.

Immediately catching the eye, the C-Crosser’s robust good looks are fronted by the dominant chevrons that stretch across the bonnet into the streamlined front headlamps, ensuring that it is instantly recognizable as a Citroën. A multiple-ribbed bonnet, chunky wheel arches, the smart use of chrome detailing and the sleek window lines further enhance the C-Crosser’s dynamic styling.

The C-Crosser will be available with Citroën’s impressive, new generation 156bhp 2.2HDi engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Capable of producing 380Nm of torque this diesel powerplant also boasts impressive green credentials, offering low fuel consumption, the ability to run on 30% bio-diesel and a Diesel Particulate Filter System that reduces particle emissions to virtually immeasurable levels.

With the C-Crosser’s integral transmission, drivers have a choice of three settings, dependent on road conditions and driving style: two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and a lock setting designed for low-grip conditions. Ensuring an optimum blend of comfort, road holding and off-road capability, Citroën’s new SUV is equipped with MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension, combined with 18-inch Michelin tires for added grip.

Occupants will also benefit from the easily reconfigured second and third row of seats, which can be folded away quickly and effortlessly to provide a flat floor and vast load space. The rear two seats can be completely hidden away under the floor, while the second row of seating, which slides to offer greater leg room or boot space, features a 60:40 split/fold function that is operated via electric controls in the boot.

Making it easier to load bulky objects, the tailgate opens in two sections. The lower part is able to support up to 200kg, allowing it to double up as an al fresco seat, perfect for owners with an SUV lifestyle based around a love of outdoor pursuits.

The new C-Crosser rounds off Citroën’s range of mid- and top-end cars, ensuring there is a vehicle to suit all needs, whether it be for an SUV, a versatile people carrier (C4 Picasso or C8), an executive saloon (C6) or a comfortable family car (C4 or C5). The Xsara Picasso and Berlingo Multispace MPVs dominate their respective sectors, while at the same time the Company is continuing to pursue its strategy of offering a range of individual yet complementary small cars, with the C1, C2, C3 and C3 Pluriel.

Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser will be based on the new Mitsubishi Outlander

Following the success of the new Mitsubishi Outlander in its home market in Japan, Mitsubishi is set to expand export of the highly successful Crossover SUV to markets like Europe and the Americas. The United States is the first of these markets to get the new Outlander, while the Europe market will have their own slightly modified versions of the Outlander, tailored for the European market.

PSA Peugeot, with its partnership agreement with Mitsubishi, is currently developing their very first 4x4 SUV based on the Outlander platform, an will carry the model name Peugeot 4007. Under this partnership, Mitsubishi Motors will be providing the PSA Peugeot will the most of the vehicle parts, almost completely built imports, except for the engines. The Peugeot 4700 will come in two varieties, a 2.4L 170HP DOHC gasoline engine, identical to what is fitted in the current Outlander in Japan, and a 2.0L 136HP HDI diesel engine to be provided by PSA Peugeot. Estimated production of the Peugeot 4007 is 30,000 units per year, with the car costing about 20,000€ to 30,000€ depending on the trim.

PSA, being the mother company of both Peugeot and Citroen, also plans to roll-out a similar crossover SUV under the Citroen brand. It will marketed as the Citroen C-Crosser, and is speculated to have similar engine options with the Peugeot 4007.

Here are some spy shots of the Peugeot 4007 and the Outlander taken during product testing in Scandinavia. The front and rear details of both cars have been masked. The Peugeot 4007 is the one with French car plate, while the Outlander has a German car plate.

The photos below are what the pre-production Peugeot 4007 look like. Although the final details of the specifications are not yet made public, the external appearance of the final product is expected to be more or less what you see now.
