A WHAT VAN? DOUBLE FOR MITSUBISHI
* Fourth consecutive win for L200 pick up
* Third consecutive win for Outlander Commercial
Mitsubishi Motors is celebrating another double at the 2009 What Van? awards. The L200 took ‘Pick-up of the Year’ for the fourth consecutive year, a remarkable 14 times in 17 years, with the Outlander Commercial collecting the ‘4x4 Van of the Year’ for the third consecutive year.
With the addition of the new L200 Long Bed variants in May 2009 Mitsubishi now offer a fully comprehensive range of pick-ups. The L200 Long Bed features an 18cm load bed extension, with no reduction in passenger cabin space. The cargo area is higher and squarer at the rear, increasing carrying volume. The high series variants also benefit from a substantial increase in engine output at 176 bhp (previously 134 bhp), making it the highest power engine in the pick-up segment.
What Van?’s Neil McIntee commented “The L200 rides and handles competently, build quality is unassailable and there’s sufficient power under your fight foot to meet the majority of requirements. While 4x4’s aren’t always manoeuvrable, that’s rarely a problem with Mitsubishi’s load-shifter. Even the Long Bed can cope with tight situations that would probably defeat some of its competitors and come out smiling.”
Not to be out shone by its big brother the Mitsubishi Outlander Commercial triumphed yet again taking the ‘4x4 Van of the Year’ award. The Outlander Commercial combines lofty ground clearance and the commanding driving position of an off-roader with a small on-the-road footprint. The Outlander delivers exceptional economy and low emissions, returning 42.8mpg combined and posting a tax-effective CO2 figure of 174g/km – without compromising on performance and refinement.
