Chrysler Group said yesterday that it will be ending its engine manufacturing alliance with Hyundai and Mitsubishi. Known as the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA), the alliance was responsible for building fuel-efficient 4-cylinder engines since 2005.
Chrysler said that Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Hyundai Motor Company, have sold their interests in the manufacturing alliance to the Chrysler Group.
“Going forward, GEMA and its employees will continue to build state-of-the-art engines for Chrysler Group’s line of exciting, fuel efficient vehicles,” Chrysler said in a statement.
GEMA will now build engines for Chrysler vehicles only, including the Dodge Caliber, the Jeep Compass and the Jeep Patriot.
