Prodrive releases Group N Spec Subaru Impreza N2010 [UK]

Links to this post
18 January 2010. Prodrive releases new Impreza Group N

Prodrive has launched the Impreza N2010, its latest FIA specification group N rally car.

The Impreza N2010 uses the new larger 33mm air restrictor, introduced by the FIA to help balance the performance of Group N and the unrestricted Super2000 rally cars. Increasing the restrictor diameter from 32 to 33mm, fitting high flow fuel injectors and recalibrating the ECU increases peak power by 20 bhp, but more significantly, improves torque and responsiveness throughout the rev range.

The improvements in engine performance have been matched by enhancements to the car’s dynamics. The N2010 Ohlins dampers have been revised with extra travel front and rear, while all the suspension bushes have been strengthened.

“The engine and suspension changes make the N2010 far more competitive,” said Graham Prew, Prodrive sales manager. “On gravel the Impreza is certainly a match for any Super 2000, but it is on tarmac, that the additional engine performance will really come into its own and make the N2010 a competitive alternative to a Super 2000, but at about half the price and with significantly lower running costs.”

The Impreza N2010 prices start at £120,000 and for the first time Prodrive has introduced a financing option to enable the car to be leased over two years with an option to buy the car at the end of the agreement. The package includes insurance and system rebuilds.

Celebrate the heroes

From the first to the last, staying focused is key on this final special where the statistics are formal: there are always withdrawals just a few lengths away from the finish. The 206 kilometres of special, covered on very fast tracks therefore have to be negotiated extremely carefully. At the finish, the heroes of this 32nd edition will at first be celebrated in the village of San Carlos de Bolivar. The aficionados, aware that the most intense moments of joy occur on the line, will certainly have come in numbers. After the avalanche of emotions, the competitors will drive to Buenos Aires where a huge crowd will be expecting them for more glorious moments.

Life in grey

With two days to go before the finish, the standings can still be modified. No-one can consider being clear of staying stuck in the grey sand of the Nihuil dunes, the last few of the rally. After this part of close to 40 kilometres, larger and faster paths will lead the competitors to the finish of the special. These portions will be a rare opportunity to test on the distance the top speeds of the vehicles while taking good care of the mechanical aspect.

Ambitious undertaking will put up to 50 i-MiEV all-electric cars on Boucherville roads

Tokyo, January 15, 2010— Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced an unprecedented collaboration by its Canadian unit Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) and Hydro-Québec that will put up to 50 zero-emission all-electric i-MiEV passenger cars on the streets of the City of Boucherville, an independent municipality and a suburb of Montreal, in the largest Canadian project ever fielded to integrate, test, and evaluate all-electric vehicles on urban streets under real-world conditions.

Announced also at the Montreal International Auto Show, the pilot program will expose fleet drivers from Boucherville, Hydro Québec, and other approved companies to the Mitsubishi i-MiEV all electric minicar, in both fall and winter urban conditions.

Between fairies and dinosaurs

For the longest stage of the rally, the program will be as lively as it will be spectacular. We will leave the area of dinosaurs on tracks cut by rios, surrounded by canyons and "fairy chimneys". After around 200 kilometres of special, the competitors will momentarily use the road in order to avoid a classified and protected natural site. The second part, exclusively sandy will have many jumps. The bikers can expect to have sore arms and the best of them will rarely ride at over 100 km/h. The day will be even more tiring due to the fact that it will end with a long liaison.

Saluting the Aconcagua

It's through the Paso Libertadores, at an altitude of 3500 metres that the competitors will leave Chile to return to Argentina where the day's special will take place. For the first fifty kilometres which will actually be the only portion of the rally competed at high altitude, the mechanics will need to work on settings to compensate with the lack of power. The competitors will race on the high hill tops of the Andes with views on the famous Aconcagua that dominates the area from the top of its 6859 metres. To reach San Juan, one will then need to find a way through the rios. In the same time the cars and trucks will have to take good care of their brakes for a long descent of close to 20 kilometres.

Best Buy's Mitsubishi i-MiEVs Debut At The Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show In Geek Squad Livery

Fri, Jan 08, 2010 - LAS VEGAS - The four i-MiEV's leased by Best Buy Corporation for the Geek Squad in-home service fleet will be on display at the Best Buy Live display at the 2010 Las Vegas CES. These battery electric i-MiEV's leased from Mitsubishi Motors are part of an exploratory program conducted by Best Buy to evaluate these zero tailpipe emission, four passenger vehicles for implementation in their Geek Squad service fleet. The vehicles will actually enter service with the Geek Squad fleet by January 13th at a Best Buy retail location in El Segundo, California.

Electric Vehicle Background
Mitsubishi Motors has been involved in electric vehicle development for more than 35 years. Concentrating mostly on motor and battery technology, Mitsubishi has developed the zero-emissions i-MiEV, an electric minicar which has been on sale in Japan since summer of 2009. The i-MiEV was named as one of the top three finalists in the 2009 World Green Car competition.

With its highly efficient electric powertrain, the i-MiEV concept is a zero on-road CO2 emissions vehicle. Even when taking into account the CO2 emissions emitted by the power plants that generate the electricity required to power the car, the i-MiEV only produces about 30% of the CO2 of a comparable 660cc gasoline minicar.

The onboard electric systems also help reduce noise pollution during day-to-day operation. Free of the vertical vibrations and exhaust noise of gasoline engines, the i-MiEV's motor helps bring about a 5dB reduction in sound when fully accelerating from 31 mph.
