Mitsubishi Double Shotz Concept

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (October 30, 2007) - Hot Wheels® announced today its first-ever Designer's Challenge™, inviting designers from leading automotive manufacturers the chance to design and create an original Hot Wheels® vehicle. The Designer's Challenge™ was created as a way for Hot Wheels® to honor its automotive partners and have them actively participate in the die-cast brand's 40th anniversary celebration in 2008. The selected designs will be the basis of a new 40th anniversary Designer's Challenge™ product line, which will hit store shelves in spring 2008.

"This is the first time in Hot Wheels history that we've turned outside the company to seek new car designs; and who better to go to than our automotive partners who have been a part of Hot Wheels history for the last 40 years?" said Geoff Walker, vice president, Wheels marketing, Mattel Brands. "We couldn't be more thrilled with the results of this program, and we're anxious to see the designs come to life as 1:64-scale models on store shelves next spring."

Automotive manufacturer participants in the Hot Wheels® Designer's Challenge™ - Dodge, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Lotus and Mitsubishi - were tasked with designing a car that captured the die-cast brand's core essence of speed, power, performance and attitude, while also encompassing the distinct attributes of each company's automotive brand values. In addition, each car had to be able to perform a loop on classic Hot Wheels® orange track. The top three designs from each automotive manufacturer were selected and presented to a panel of judges that included editors from the Los Angeles Times, Car and Driver, and Men's Journal, along with Hot Wheels® designers and executives.

The designs selected for the Hot Wheels® Designer's Challenge™ line include:

2008 Mitsubishi Full Line Overview [US]

2008 Mitsubishi Full Line Overview

October 30, 2007 -- Cypress, Calif. --
Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) enters the 2008 model year with a fortified product portfolio and buoyed by rising retail sales through 2007. The company has introduced six new or redesigned models over the last two years, most recently the all-new Lancer in spring 2007, and before that the Outlander crossover SUV and the Eclipse Spyder. Mitsubishi will show more new models at the upcoming major auto shows.

All-New Lancer

Mitsubishi last spring introduced the all-new, 2008 Lancer compact sedan, delivering sporty dynamics, "class-up" value, advanced safety and available cutting-edge user-technology in an aggressively styled package. For the fall, the 2008 mid-line Lancer ES model gains an optional new Technology and Appearance Package, bundling a number of user technology features from the GTS model with a rear trunk lip spoiler, chrome exhaust tip and chrome beltline accents.

The 2008 Lancer is based on a performance-engineered global platform that also forms the foundation of the Outlander SUV and will underpin the upcoming next-generation Lancer Evolution model. A "shark-nosed" front end inspired by jet fighter air intakes, a distinct wedge-like profile and crisp, taut lines highlight the Lancer's exciting new design.

The 2008 Lancer is available as the value-minded DE, the well-equipped ES and the sport-tuned GTS. All models are powered by a new 2.0-liter 152 hp aluminum DOHC MIVEC 4-cylinder engine (143 hp PZEV in Calif.) teamed to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Lancer offers an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT), that, in the GTS model, exclusively features a 6-step Sportronic® mode using magnesium steering wheel paddle shifters. The GTS features sport-tuned suspension, 18-in. alloy wheels and larger 4-wheel disc brakes, plus front and side air dams, fog lights, a rear spoiler and a chrome tailpipe tip.

Standard safety features for all Lancer models include an advanced dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) with occupant sensors, standard front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and side curtain air bags, a driver's knee air bag, plus a tire pressure monitor system. The ES and GTS models add a standard anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), which is available for the DE.

All Lancer models for 2008 come pre-wired for SIRIUS® Satellite Radio, which is included with the 650-Watt (max.), Rockford-Fosgate® Premium Audio system available for the ES and GTS models. Other high-tech options for the ES and GTS include a 30-gigabyte hard drive navigation system with digital music server and the FAST Key (Freehand Advanced Security Transmitter) entry system. A Bluetooth® wireless technology cell phone interface system with voice recognition for hands-free calling is standard for the GTS and available for the ES.

Next-Generation Lancer Evolution

Mitsubishi is introducing the 2008 Lancer Evolution, the newest and most sophisticated version of the legendary high-performance model series that began 16 years ago. The newest Evolution debuted at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show and enters the United States later this fall. While remaining true to the core values that have made the Lancer Evolution synonymous with thrilling performance, the next-generation model offers all-around capability and user technology that distinguish the world's best performance models.

The strikingly styled 2008 Lancer Evolution showcases new performance and handling technology, including an all-new 295-hp (est.) 2.0-liter turbocharged/intercooled engine and the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) dynamic handling system. S-AWC offers an extraordinary level of control at each wheel, going well beyond the capabilities of other all-wheel drive systems.

The S-AWC system regulates drive torque at each wheel by controlling a network of dynamic handling technologies, including: Active Center Differential (ACD) 4-wheel drive, Active Yaw Control (AYC) rear differential, Active Stability Control (ASC), and Sport ABS brakes. Integration of ASC is new for all markets.

The new Lancer Evolution looks the part of a street-wise sports machine with its unique front end, aggressively sloping hood with integral air scoop and engine heat outlets, boxed fenders and 18-inch wheels. The basic all-new Lancer platform - already stiffer than the previous-generation Lancer Evolution IX - is further reinforced for the 2008 Lancer Evolution. In addition, the roof, hood, front fenders and both the front and rear bumper beams are aluminum. The battery and windshield washer fluid tank are mounted in the trunk area for better weight distribution.

Two Lancer Evolution models will be offered in the U.S. market for 2008: the GSR with a new 5-speed manual transmission and the Lancer Evolution MR with a new 6-speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST), a new-generation automated manual transmission. The MR model is also equipped exclusively with Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibach springs, two-piece brake rotors for better heat dissipation, BBS forged-alloy wheels, HID headlamps and additional interior features.

Outlander ES 2.4 Debuts

Mitsubishi introduced the next-generation Outlander crossover SUV for model year 2007 and for 2008 is adding a new 4-cylinder ES model. Available with 2WD or three-mode 4WD, the Outlander ES is powered by a new 2.4-liter DOHC MIVEC engine teamed with a Sportronic® continuously variable transmission (CVT). All Outlander models come standard with front-wheel drive and Active Stability Control (ASC) with electronic traction control (TCL).

The Outlander blends sporty dynamics, bold styling, five- or seven-passenger versatility, plus advanced user technology and onboard entertainment options. An aluminum roof lowers the center of gravity for better handling response. The segment's only flap-fold tailgate helps make loading cargo easier and can also serve as a tailgate seat that supports up to 440 lbs.

The 2008 Outlander LS and XLS models continue with a standard 220-hp 3.0-liter MIVEC V-6 (213 hp for PZEV-certified model) and 6-speed Sportronic automatic transmission, with the XLS featuring magnesium steering wheel paddle shifters. The Outlander was the first PZEV V-6 SUV offered in the U.S. On Outlander XLS models, 18-in. aluminum-alloy wheels are standard.

All Outlander models gain redesigned interior door panels with cloth inserts for 2008, with new chrome inner door handles for XLS. On LS models, the FAST Key entry system is now standard. An MP3/auxiliary input jack is newly standard for LS and XLS models, and all 4WD models get heated exterior mirrors.

Standard Outlander safety features include an advanced dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) with occupant sensors, standard front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and side curtain air bags (front and second row), plus energy-absorbing head protection interior pillars, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

High-tech Outlander options include a HDD 30-gigabyte navigation system with music server; a 650-watt (max.) Rockford-Fosgate Premium Audio system and SIRIUS satellite radio with 6-month pre-paid subscription; hands-free calling through Bluetooth wireless technology, and an accessory DVD rear seat entertainment system with 9-inch LCD screen.

Eclipse Coupe and Spyder Are "Attainable Exotics"

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Coupe combines thrilling design and performance with outstanding value in the sport coupe segment. New for 2008, limited-production Special Edition models will be available with either the V-6 or 4-cylinder engine. The SE models combine an exclusive aerodynamic body package, a unique exterior graphic treatment and interior enhancements.

The Eclipse GT models gain standard 18-inch alloy wheels for 2008, and the optional SE Package for the GT now includes Active Stability Control (ASC). SIRIUS Satellite Radio is now included with the available 650-watt (max.) Rockford-Fosgate Premium Audio system (standard in Spyder models), with a 6-month pre-paid subscription.

Eclipse is offered as the GS and the high-performance GT. The GS model's 162-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is teamed with a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic. The GT's 3.8-liter MIVEC V-6 produces 263 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of peak torque (260 hp and 258 lb.-ft. in Spyder due to a different exhaust system) and is teamed with a standard 6-speed manual transmission or optional 5-speed automatic. Both Eclipse automatic transmissions feature Sportronic shifters to allow manual gearshift control.

Four-wheel disc brakes are standard on all models, with anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), plus larger, ventilated rear discs on the GT. All Eclipse models for 2008 gain a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Eclipse combines exotic-looking interior design with comfort and safety, including standard advanced dual-stage front air bags, seat-mounted side air bags and front seat curtain side air bags. In the coupe, the 50:50 split-folding rear seatbacks provide cargo versatility.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder is equipped with a high-tech convertible top and additional feature content over the coupe models. The automatic cloth top folds completely out of sight under a flush-fitting powered tonneau cover in about 19 seconds. Its multi-layer construction with full headliner and glass rear window for the quiet, snug interior feeling of a coupe when it is raised.

Galant Ralliart Challenges Premium Sport Sedans

The Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart spearheads the Galant mid-size sedan line, which for 2008 also includes the 4-cylinder DE and ES models. The GTS model is discontinued.

The Galant achieved 5-star ratings in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offset frontal and side impact crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded Galant its highest ranking (Good) in its frontal offset and side impact crash tests.

Galant Ralliart is powered by a 258-hp 3.8-liter MIVEC V-6 engine and equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission with Sportronic, plus Ralliart-tuned sport suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels and exclusive exterior styling.

The Galant DE and ES models are powered by a 160-hp 2.4-liter MIVEC 4-cylinder engine teamed to a four-speed automatic transmission with Sportronic.

In the Galant Ralliart, standard luxury amenities include perforated leather-trimmed seating surfaces, heated front seats, automatic climate control system, power glass sunroof and an auto- dimming rear view mirror with Homelink transmitter. The standard Rockford Acoustic Design™ premium audio system includes SIRIUS Satellite Radio with a 6-month pre-paid subscription. The Galant Ralliart offers one factory option, a DVD navigation system.

Mitsubishi Endeavor Crossover SUV Gets Highest Safety Ratings

The Mitsubishi Endeavor is a crossover-type mid-size SUV that combines car-like driving dynamics with impressive comfort, safety, room and versatility. Powered by a 225-hp 3.8-liter V-6 engine teamed to a standard 4-speed automatic transmission with Sportronic mode, Endeavor is available with front-wheel drive or full-time all-wheel drive.

New for 2008, front-wheel drive Endeavor models gain the Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC) system, which was already standard on the all-wheel drive models. Also for 2008, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, with 6-month pre-paid service, is included with the Endeavor SE, which also offers a luxurious new two-tone leather seating option.

Endeavor is available as the well-equipped LS model and the luxurious SE, which features standard leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, a power driver's seat, and a 360-watt Rockford Acoustic Design Premium Audio System with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and steering wheel audio controls. The SE offers an optional Sunroof Package and Navigation Package.

Endeavor achieved 5-star ratings for frontal (driver) and side impact (front and rear seat) NHTSA crash tests. The IIHS awarded Endeavor its highest ranking (Good) in its frontal offset crash test.

All Endeavor models come equipped with an advanced dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) with occupant sensors; standard front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and rollover-sensing side curtain air bags; an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

The Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, Galant and Endeavor models are all built in the Mitsubishi manufacturing plant in Normal, Ill., one of the industry's most flexible assembly plants.

Raider

The Mitsubishi Raider midsize pickup truck continues as a 2007 model. Available in both an extended and double cab, the Raider continues to offer versatility and capability for active lifestyles. Details for the 2008 Raider model line will be revealed in early 2008.

Industry-First HOV Guidance

The navigation system available for Lancer, Outlander, Galant and Endeavor models will feature Diamond Lane Guidance, an industry-first development that gives the driver to have HOV (high-occupancy vehicle) lane information included with directions. Using HOV lanes, where permissible and accessible, can help reduce driving times. The navigation system with music server and the RSE can be added to the ES and LS models as an accessory.

Taiwan gets facelifted Lancer: Lancer Fortis 2.0

Taiwan gets facelifted Lancer: Lancer Fortis 2.0

Mitsubishi's redesign of the new Lancer and Lancer Evolution have a strong impact on the future exterior styling of their products. Already clearly reflected in the concept cars they build, the aggressive "shark" nose, closely resembling a jetfighter with it's massive air intakes, Mitsubishi is likely to permeate this styling to a lot of it's product redesigns. We have now the Concept-cX, Concept-X (now the Evo X), Concept Sportback, and Concept-ZT sporting this aggressive body styling.

However in Taiwan, Mitsubishi has a different approach. They gave the new Lancer a tame, almost "wholesome" look rather than the aggressive styling of the US Lancer or Galant Fortis. Nevertheless, it is still the same Lancer but with a different styling. It may not be too apparent from first glance, but looking at it in angles will reveal the new Lancer body. Even the rear has been redesigned.

From the pictures below, I'd say Mitsubishi has done a good job in making a less aggressive, "homey" version from the sporty Lancer. And I bet this is more of a market preference more than anything else.

From what it looks like, the interior is almost like the US Lancer, with woodgrain panel accents, a Multimedia Console similar to the US MMCS, Outlander styled steering wheels and gauges, 7 airbags (including knee area), sunroof, same 2.0L 4B11 engine mated to a CVT as with all other new Lancers, same alloy wheel design as US GTS trim. So in summary this is mostly facelift. And although some may prefer the sporty styling of this car, Taiwanese get the tamed version. But it's still the same sporty sedan when it's on the road, and it handles like every other new Lancer.

Buildbase builds new fleet of L200 Triton work trucks [UK]

MITSUBISHI’S L200 PROVIDES THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB

National builders merchant chain Buildbase has recently purchased 14 new Mitsubishi L200 4Work single-cab pick-ups as part of an upgrade programme to replace all its existing fleet of previous model L200s.

The vehicles are used by Hirebase, Buildbase’s tool hire division, to provide a delivery and collection service to construction sites in each of its branch areas, carrying a variety of small plant, tools and other construction site equipment.

Each vehicle has been modified to incorporate a tail lift, with the load area fitted with a chequerplate lining, tie-down points and a lockable aluminium storage box. The L200s have also been fitted with rear-facing work lights and are finished in the company’s distinctive bright red livery.

Having been more than satisfied with the abilities of the former version of Mitsubishi’s versatile pick-up, Buildbase Group Transport Manager Phil Alexander had no hesitation in specifying the newer model when it came to replacing his fleet:

“Our Hirebase centres need a hard-working vehicle with the option of four-wheel drive to enable our drivers to get to some of the sites. The vehicles must have a big load carrying capability and, most importantly, have to be reliable. The Mitsubishi L200 does all these things and is therefore a great tool for the job.”

Underlining Mr Alexander’s purchasing decision is the L200’s legendary durability and purposeful specification, such as its 1120 kg payload capacity and large flat load area. Its appeal is further increased by 12,000-mile/12-month service intervals, a three-year/100,000 mile warranty and a 12-year anti-corrosion perforation warranty.

Now, with 40 sites around the UK, Hirebase is planning to replace the remainder of its pick-up fleet with more new Mitsubishi L200s over the next two years.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution At-A-Glance [US]

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution At-A-Glance

While remaining true to the core values that have made the Lancer Evolution synonymous with thrilling performance, the next-generation 2008 model offers all-around capability and user technology that distinguish the world's best performance models.

The 2008 Lancer Evolution showcases new performance and handling technology, including an all-new 295-hp (est.) 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled engine and the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) dynamic handling system. S-AWC regulates drive torque at each wheel by controlling a network of dynamic handling technologies, including: Active Center Differential (ACD) 4-wheel drive, Active Yaw Control (AYC) rear differential, Active Stability Control (ASC), and Sport ABS brakes. Integration of ASC is new for all markets. A helical gear-type limited-slip front differential is used.

The 2008 Lancer Evolution is powered by a 2.0-liter intercooled-turbocharged 2.0-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder based on a reinforced cast-aluminum cylinder block. Unlike the 4G63 engine used in the previous Lancer Evolution, the new 4B11 engine does not use a balancer shaft, made possible by the new engine's inherently lower noise and vibration and use of hydraulic engine mounts.

The new engine employs a direct-acting valvetrain in place of the previous roller rocker arm configuration for reduced weight. A timing chain replaces the belt, and MIVEC variable valve timing is used on both the intake and exhaust camshafts (the 4G63 had MIVEC on the intake only). The rear-located (firewall side) stainless steel exhaust manifold helps improve weight distribution.

A shark-nosed front end inspired by jet fighter air intakes, a distinct wedge-like profile and crisp, taut lines highlight the basic design. The new Lancer Evolution looks the part of a street-wise sports machine with its unique front end, aggressively sloping hood with integral air scoop and engine heat outlets, boxed fenders and 18-inch wheels.

Two Lancer Evolution models will be offered in the U.S. for 2008: the GSR with a new 5-speed manual transmission and the Lancer Evolution MR with a new 6-speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST), an automated manual transmission with magnesium steering wheel shifter paddles and a console shifter. The MR is also equipped exclusively with Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibach springs, two-piece brake rotors, BBS forged-alloy wheels, HID headlamps and Bluetooth wireless capability.

A longer wheelbase and wider track form the foundation for better handling and stability in the 2008 Lancer Evolution.

The basic all-new Lancer platform – already stiffer than the previous-generation Lancer Evolution IX – is further reinforced for the 2008 Lancer Evolution. The roof, hood, front fenders and both the front and rear bumper beams are aluminum. The battery and windshield washer fluid tank are mounted in the trunk area for better weight distribution.

The Lancer Evolution features its own suspension system, including inverted struts in front and a rear multi-link configuration. Forged aluminum components reduce unsprung weight. The 18 x 8.5-inch wheels (Enkei cast-alloy on GSR and BBS forged-alloy on MR) carry 245/40R18 Yokohama ADVAN asymmetrical performance tires, a change from the 17 x 8-inch wheels with 235/45R17 directional tires used on the previous model.

The 2008 Lancer Evolution is now a markedly better car for everyday driving. The suspension is tuned to provide a more compliant and stable ride than before without compromising handling performance. Inside, the Lancer Evolution shows a new international flair. The new Recaro seats integrate new side airbags. Available user technology, including Rockford Fosgate® audio and navigation systems, reflects the tastes of a broadening customer base. Standard safety features include an advanced dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) with occupant sensors, standard front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and side curtain air bags, plus a driver's knee air bag.

Triton L200 pickup for export hits 1M mark after just 2 years

Mitsubishi Motors sets new record: 1,000,000 pick up trucks exported from Thailand

At the One Million Pick Up Export Ceremony
(Leam Chabang, Thailand)

At the One Million Pick Up Export Ceremony
(Leam Chabang, Thailand)

Patumtani, October 11, 2007 — Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co. Ltd. (MMTh) today announced the successful export of one million pickup trucks. In addition, the company announced the new competitive Triton Million Edition, a customized domestic model.

Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co. Ltd. announced the completion of the million-pickup goal after hitting its million-unit milestone (all vehicle types) last June. Mr. Michiro Imai, President of MMTh, released this statement regarding the company's success in exporting to over 140 countries worldwide:

"This success has not only proved the company's capability and potential in exports but has also shown that Thai-built Mitsubishi vehicles are of top quality. Its acceptance by customers worldwide is a credit to the skills of Thai people, and to Mitsubishi's advanced technology, which give the Triton* the attractive appearance, performance, and comfort it is known for. The Triton has become a symbol of MMTh's drive to excel and take its place as a world-leading automaker. Today's success is doubtless another step on that path, as well as a further step for Thailand toward becoming 'the Detroit of Asia'.

As pleased as I am with our current achievements, none would have been possible without the support of the Thai people, especially the government sectors who support our infrastructure and automobile industry policy, suppliers who provide high quality and punctual delivery, and logistic companies who also support that punctual delivery."

Mitsubishi has started business in Thailand since 1961. The company began manufacturing light-duty trucks and later expanded to sedans for domestic markets. Years later, because of the capability and potential of the company, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Japan made the Thailand operation a production base for worldwide exports. This marked the first time in the history of Japan's automotive industry that pick up truck production was based outside Japan; it was also a first for Thailand.

The company's first export model was the Mitsubishi Champ, which went to Canada in 1988. The company went on to export the Mitsubishi L 200 Cyclone pick up truck to Portugal in 1989. Since then, exports have expanded to more than 140 countries worldwide, covering Europe, Australia, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Over the years, all Mitsubishi pick up models (Cyclone, L200 Strada, and the Triton) have been manufactured at the production base (Leam Chabang Industrial Estate). Total pick up exports from Thailand in 2006 totaled 133,109 units; in 2007 the target is set higher at 140,000 units.

The new Triton, still just two years old, has already received more than 10 awards both domestically and internationally.

2008 Subaru WRX STi to be unveiled in the 40th Tokyo Motors Show [JA]

Subaru offers the new AWD performance icon

Concept

The new WRX STI was developed with the eternal theme and essence of the driver’s car, the “total driving control,” that the preceding WRX STI models also pursued. This AWD sports model gives maximum driving pleasure through its combination of power, performance, handling and ride capabilities thanks to engineering exclusively designed for the WRX STI and its five-door package. It also balances excellent safety and environmental aspects at a high level.
Styling

Using a new five-door body style developed from the Impreza model, the new Impreza WRX STI displays a powerful design language that speaks directly to its performance credentials, integrating function and beauty. Adopting shortened front and rear overhangs, a longer wheelbase and widened body flares, the Impreza WRX STI clearly embodies driving performance in dynamic exterior design that delivers as overwhelming presence and beauty.

Performance

The new Horizontally-Opposed 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo charged engine was developed exclusively for the new WRX STI. By further improving the basic performance of the engine, and mating it to SI-DRIVE (SUBARU Intelligent Drive), the WRX STI offers not only outright performance as might be expected, but also delivers excellent handling under extreme as well as normal driving conditions.

Featuring Subaru’s unique Symmetrical AWD and specially developed in-house 6-speed manual transmission as its base technologies, multi mode DCCD* and VDC**, which control traction and stability more precisely, have also been added to WRX STI. To complete its performance credentials, the evolved chassis by “Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept” has dramatically improved road-hugging capability and will provide exhilaration and confidence in every driving situation.

Lancer Evo X to debut as Course Car in WRC Rally Japan

FIA PRODUCTION CAR WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 14: RALLY JAPAN
06 SEPTEMBER 2007

MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION X (10) TO DEBUT AS COURSE CAR IN RALLY JAPAN

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced that their new-generation high-performance 4WD sedan, the Lancer Evolution X (10) is to be used as the course cars for the Japanese round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Rally Japan is also the 6th round of the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship (PWRC) and will run in Tokachi, Hokkaido from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th October 2007.

As official the Course cars for Rally Japan, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X will be the vehicles that run though the route and all the demanding stages of the event ahead of the competitors to check track conditions making sure that everything is ready for the 14th round of the WRC. The Course cars, often referred to as the ‘Double Zero’ and ‘Zero’ cars, travel through the course before the competing vehicles, 30-minutes for the Double Zero car and 15-minutes for the Zero car.

The Lancer Evolution X will run on Rally Japan in Group N specification and include various new features that have been developed in close collaboration between the Motor Sport Division / Technical Development Department of Mitsubishi Motors and Ralliart Inc.

Included in these new developments is the integrated of the roll cage into the body of the car with extensive reinforcements resulting in the cars strength and stiffness being drastically upgraded from the normal road-going version. Purpose-built components have been used for the running gear and brakes with drive-train components specially developed by Ralliart featuring a constant-mesh close-ratio gearbox.

The exterior of the Lancer Evolution X Group N will use accessories usually found on all high-performance vehicles and familiar to all rally enthusiasts including sump-guard, floor guard with fuel tank protection and mud flaps. In the cockpit additional safety features have been added including five-point safety harnesses for the crew with bucket seats and a competition steering wheel.

As Course cars on Rally Japan, the Mitsubishi Lance Evolution Xs used will have revolving roof lights as well as a siren and loudspeaker to warn the many thousands a of spectators expected on the stages that the competitors will be arriving shortly.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X is scheduled to obtain the Group N homologation from the Federation International de L'Automobile (FIA) next summer with the new rally challenger taking part in international rallies during the second half of 2008 or 2009. Registration with the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) will be applied this year, allowing competitors to participate in JAF-sanctioned events with the new-generation Lancer Evolution X.

The development of the official reconnaissance vehicle plays a leading role when it comes to supplying competition parts/components to the customer early on. Also, the participation as course car will allow the automobile manufacturer and the rally specialist to technically verify the potential of rally cars prepared by customers who use these special components. Mitsubishi Motors and Ralliart are fully committed to making maximum use of the know-how and expertise learned through various motor sport activities to support future customers and for the development of the production model.
