Honda Civic Type R to undergo FIA homologation for Group N and A

Honda recently announced at the Paris Mondial Auto Salon that it will be submitting the new Civic Type R for FIA Homologation for Group N and Group A circuit racing and rallying.

The Group N version of the rally car will be eligible for the 2007 Rookie category of the FIA Junior World Rally Championship while the Group R version could be eligible for the 2008 J-WRC, depending on regulations and approval by the FIA at the homologation.

Both the Group N and A version have been developed by Honda and JAS Motorsport, its official partner in customer racing. The Group A car will feature a sequential, six-speed gearbox with a mechanical limited slip differential, 240bhp from the engine and extensive composite bodywork.

A Group N version of the previous model has already been seen on the WRC, at the hands of Matti Rantanen, who finished third in the J-WRC category on the Neste Oil Rally Finland in August.

MD of JAS, Alessandro Mariani, described the Civic Type R as "the car to have for racing." He also said that he was proud that Honda had placed its faith in his company for such an important project.

JAS expects order to be taken from this month while it also anticipates deliveries for parts, kits and complete cars to begin in February 2007.
