Mitsubishi Motors to Launch New Mirage Global Compact in Japan
Mitsubishi Motors to Launch New Mirage Global Compact in Japan
- At 27.2 km/liter, the most fuel-efficient registered gasoline car in Japan -
Tokyo, August 1, 2012 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced today that it will launch the all-new Mirage global compact car at dealerships throughout Japan on August 31, 2012 at an MSRP ranging from ¥998,000 to ¥1,288,000.
A Fuel-efficient and Affordable Compact for Everyone
The new Mirage is a global compact car developed on the concepts of high fuel efficiency, affordable and compact (easy to drive), the ideal characteristics sought in a compact, and which meets the needs both emerging countries as an entry-level car as well as advanced markets as an "eco-car." Following its debut in Thailand where the model is being produced, and rollouts in ASEAN countries and Japan, the Mirage will then be successively rolled out in Europe, Australia and other regions. The Mirage is the most fuel-efficient "eco-car" in Thailand; exceeding the requirements for the Thai government's "eco-car" classification which allows tax subsidies. This achievement has been well received by the Thai people; over 33,000 orders have already been received for the Mirage in Thailand as of the end of July.
Best Fuel Efficiency
In Japan, the new Mirage will be offered in three trim levels with all models coming with a powertrain mating a new 1.0-liter 3-cylinder MIVEC*1 engine to a new version of the INVECS-III*2 CVT transmission. M and G trim levels employ Eco Drive Assist which promotes smarter and more fuel-efficient driving. AS&G*3 idle-stop and other technologies applied, the M and G trim levels achieve fuel economy of 27.2 km/liter*4 and make the Mirage the most fuel efficient registered gasoline car*5 in Japan. This figure is well over 20% better than Japan's 2015 Fuel Efficiency Standards, which mean these trim levels qualify for the Japanese government's "eco-car" classification thus are exempt from acquisition tax and motor vehicle tax at the time of purchase. While not equipped with AS&G, the E trim level still benefits from its extensive weight reductions, reductions in running and air resistance and other refinements in basic vehicular engineering technologies to return fuel economy of 23.2 km/liter*4. This is 10% better than the 2015 standard which means this trim level also qualifies for 75% reductions in acquisition tax and motor vehicle weight tax at the time of purchase as an eco-car. MMC has been taking orders for the new Mirage since June 26 and it has already proved very popular with orders for over 5,000 units as of the end of July.
*1: Mitsubishi Innovate Valve timing Electronic Control system.
*2: Intelligent & Innovative Vehicle Electronic Control System. INVECS-III is a management system solely for CVTs.
*3: Auto Stop & Go
*4: Per the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's JC08 fuel-economy test cycle.
*5: Hybrid vehicles not included. As researched by Mitsubishi Motors at August 1, 2012.

Mitsubishi Begins Production of Outlander Sport [ASX | RVR] in the United States
Mitsubishi Motors Begins Production of Outlander Sport in the United States
- North America-model only plant turned into global export hub -
Tokyo, July 17, 2012 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced the start of production of the Outlander Sport*1 compact crossover at Mitsubishi Motors North America's*2 (MMNA) plant in Normal, Illinois. A commemorative line-off ceremony was held at the plant.
*1: ASX or RVR in some markets.
*2: MMC's subsidiary and exclusive producer and distributor for the United States.
Change to Strategic Global Production and Export Hub
Up until recently, the Illinois plant had produced models designed specifically for the North American market, such as the Galant, Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, and the Endeavor. Now MMC turns the plant global by having the plant produce the Outlander Sport instead – not only for North American market but versions for export to Russia, Central and South America, and the Middle East, making it new strategic global production and export hub.
Planned production capacity at the Illinois plant is about 50,000 units, and MMC is considering expanding it to 70,000 units in the future. As a global production and export hub, MMC plans keep it running at appropriate production levels.
Present at the line-off ceremony, MMC Managing Director Tetsuro Aikawa put the Illinois plant change in perspective: "Mitsubishi Motors is now moving forward with 'global' vehicles that satisfy the needs of many consumers worldwide. Through the diligence of every single worker at the Illinois plant, we plan to make great strides not only in the North American market, but in other markets outside of North America by producing and exporting the Outlander Sport. The continually-growing United States market is one of our most important markets, and this change to the plant marks our commitment to this market."
Core Global Strategic Vehicle
The Outlander Sport is a global strategic vehicle that is a core product in MMC's lineup made for increasing demand for smaller vehicles worldwide. First launched in Japan in February 2010 as the RVR, it was then introduced sequentially to countries all over the world. Over 250,000 units of Outlander Sport (including its ASX and RVR cousins) have been sold worldwide as of June 2012. Since its American debut in September 2010, the Outlander Sport is now MMC's top seller in the United States.

Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Collaborates with DOE and Meralco on i-MIEV Evaluation
Mitsubishi Motors Phils. Corp. (MMPC) is pleased to announce that an Electric Vehicle or EV Cooperation Agreement with the Department of Energy (DOE) and MERALCO is underway which mainly covers the use of Mitsubishi Motors’ zero emission electric car the i-MiEV (i-Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle), for evaluation and demonstration purposes. MMPC will be the first auto manufacturer to bring in a pure electric car in the country given that its principal Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is in the forefront of EV development.
This collaboration project will entail MMPC to lend demo cars of i-MiEV to both DOE and MERALCO for the purpose of studying EV’s behaviors and performance when utilized in Metro Manila in various conditions, and also examine the impact to power system when EV is charged. The outcome of the evaluation will enhance the understanding of EV and determine the requirements of supporting charging infrastructure. It will also be a preparatory step toward the possible future introduction and create greater public awareness of electric vehicles.
The ceremonial turnover was staged at the 2nd Electric Vehicle Summit 2012 wherein MMPC President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Hikosaburo Shibata presented to DOE Secretary Jose Almendras, and MERALCO President Manuel Pangilinan the first i-MiEV unit to be used under this EV Cooperation Agreement. MMPC was also invited as a resource company in this EV Summit to provide an overview of Mitsubishi Motors EV business being in the forefront of EV development
Mr. Hikosaburo Shibata said that “This collaboration project is just timely given the various challenges the automobile is facing today which includes environmental pollution, global warming and the rising cost and depletion of petroleum-based energy supplies.” Shibata added that “We are pleased to be the first auto manufacturer in the Philippines to collaborate with DOE and MERALCO to evaluate the potential role of electric vehicles in the society and also addressing environment issues.”
The EV Summit is part of the continuous effort of the government, non-government organizations and private sectors on the promotion and development of green vehicles such as electric vehicles, in response to the significant environmental and economic demands.
Organizing this summit are the Department of Trade and Industry, Manila Economic and Cultural Office, Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines, Meralco, Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities and Partnership for Clean Air. This will be held on May 24 to 25, 2012 at the Meralco Multipurpose Hall. The theme is “Mobilizing the Region in Electric Vehicle Promotion and Development.
About the i-MIEV
Launched by Mitsubishi Motors in 2009, the i-MiEV as the ultimate eco-car, a solution to the various challenges the automobile faces today including environmental pollution, global warming and the depletion of petroleum-based energy supplies. Aside from being environmentally friendly, the i-MiEV is also very economical since the cost per kilometer to drive the i-MiEV is one third of a comparable gasoline vehicle. Cost per kilometer can drop of up to one ninth of that of gasoline depending on the cost of electricity. Charging the i-Miev is very convenient since it can be charged anywhere with electric power source. There are two ways of charging this car such as using a normal 220-volt outlet and a quick charger. It takes about 7 hours to charge on a 220 volt and 30 minutes for the quick charger to charge up to 80% of battery capacity once the battery is almost empty.
With its zero carbon dioxide tailpipe emissions and minimal well-to-wheel generation of carbon dioxide, the i-MiEV makes a valuable contribution to climate protection which also made it to be the recipient of the “Environment Special Grand Prize” at the 25th International Automobile festival in Paris.
To date, the i-MiEV is now selling in many countries and regions all over the world, including Japan, Europe, Hong Kong, Australia, Estonia and in the United States and Canada sales of i-MiEV started last year. In Japan, the i-MiEV has been in the market since July 2009 and it was later launched in Europe by the end of 2010. Since then Mitsubishi Motors has sold around 4,000 units in Japan and has exported a total of over 10,000 units. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is collaborating with other countries like the Principality of Monaco, Iceland, Denmark, Singapore, Thailand and others in their efforts to popularize EVs.

Mitsubishi Motors Previews the New Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV to Premiere at 2012 Paris Motor Show
Mitsubishi Motors Previews the New Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV to Premiere at 2012 Paris Motor Show
Mitsubishi Motors will continue to roll out its ambitious, global and green new product generation with a series of significant premieres. Highlight of this offensive will be the world introduction of the all-new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV at the forthcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show* (“Mondial de l’Automobile*).
New Frontier
Neither a mere adaptation of an existing Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) - powered vehicle, nor a dedicated Plug-in Hybrid technology showcase, the New Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV (or “PHEV”) will share its architecture with the soon-to-be-introduced New Outlander’s ICE versions – an engineering feat in itself.
As such, it will be the first mainstream car from a major manufacturer envisaged from the outset with built-in provisions for either ICE or PHEV powertrains.
Plug-in Hybrid EV
Adding to its credentials, the New Outlander PHEV will further distinguish itself:
Mitsubishi Motors’ first Plug-in Hybrid car, it will be an EV-based vehicle, relying on MMC’s extensive EV and electronic know-how, supplemented by a petrol engine when needed – a solution more suited to global markets than Diesel.
Making the best use of Mitsubishi’s renowned 4-Wheel-Drive expertise, it will also be the first permanent 4WD electric car in series production.
Long haul
The New Outlander PHEV unique drivetrain combination of front electric motor + rear electric motor + front traction/generator petrol engine will translate into a choice of three driving modes:
Pure (Twin Motor 4WD EV)
Series (Twin Motor 4WD - EV supported by generator)
Parallel (ICE engine supported by Twin Motor 4WD).
When fitted to the New Outlander, the Mitsubishi Plug-in Hybrid system will allow for a long haul range and very low emissions similar to that of the Concept PX-MiEV II show car, i.e. a driving distance of over 800 km and a CO2 target below 50 g/km.
Further…
Whilst the New Outlander ICE will start its commercial career in Western & Eastern Europe in the fall of 2012, the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV will be retailed in Europe during the course of 2013.
Complementing this New Outlander family, Mitsubishi Motors will stage further premieres at the Paris Motor Show, aimed at a European audience and to be detailed at a later stage…

Mitsubishi Motors to Launch MiEV Power BOX 1500 Watt Power Feeder for its Electric Vehicles
Mitsubishi Motors to Launch MiEV Power BOX 1500 Watt Power Feeder for its Electric Vehicles
Tokyo, March 9, 2012 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced today that it will bring to market on April 27 the new MiEV power BOX power feeder which is capable of supplying large amounts of electrical power from an electric vehicle (EV). Supplied by a Mitsubishi Group affiliate, the MiEV power BOX will be offered as a dealer option for the company's i-MiEV *1 and MINICAB-MiEV EVs and will carry a manufacturer's recommended tax-inclusive price of \149,800.
*1: Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle
The MiEV power BOX is an adapter that plugs into the i-MiEV or MINICAB-MiEV's quick charging connector and is capable of supplying up to 1500 watts of AC electricity from the power stored in the vehicle's drive battery. It has been designed mainly to power household electrical appliances either when away from home or in an emergency. When connected to a fully-charged 16.0 kWh battery-equipped model the MiEV power BOX can supply 1500 watts of power for between five and six hours, equivalent to the amount consumed by an average Japanese household in a single day.
Much attention is currently being focused on the storage capabilities of high capacity EV batteries as a power source for use in major disasters and other emergencies. This comes at a time when solar power, wind power, and other recyclable energy sources are being promoted and the near-future implementation of "smart grids" which will allow the more effective use of electrical power. More and more people are looking to the EV both in terms of its traditional role of addressing environmental issues and also as a means of addressing ever-growing pressures on the demand and supply of energy. To meet these expectations MMC is pushing forward research and development into related technologies, one of which is the MiEV power BOX.

Mitsubishi Motors to Debut the New Outlander at the 2012 Geneva International Motor Show
Tokyo, February 9, 2012 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will present the global debut of the all-new Outlander at the 82nd Geneva International Motor Show which runs from March 6 through March 18*. The new-generation Outlander was built to be eco-friendly and it accomplishes this as it returns fuel efficiency and CO2 emission levels that are among the best in its class. Also on display on the Mitsubishi Motors stand in a lineup of 13 models (8 on the first Press Day) will be the MiEV House, a model for a near-future "EV (electric vehicle) lifestyle" that maximizes household energy usage with the help of an EV, as well as the fast-selling ASX (RVR or Outlander Sport in some markets) and other models currently on sale in Europe.
*For more information, please visit http://www.salon-auto.ch/en/ (English)
In addition to its fuel efficiency and CO2 emission levels that are among the best in its class, other features distinguishing the new Outlander include enhanced levels of safety from the adoption of advanced safety technologies and a user-friendly interior that reflects pure quality.
The new Outlander will be launched first in Russia this summer, after which it will make its debut in European, Japanese, Oceania, Chinese and North American markets.

New Outlander
(show model)
1.New Outlander Product Features
(1) Outstanding environmental performance with fuel consumption and CO2 emission levels that are among the best in its class
The European-market specification Outlander is offered with a choice of gasoline and diesel engines. Gasoline models are powered by the 4J11 2.0-liter in-line 4-cylinder SOHC MIVEC*1 engine which employs an all-new valvetrain. Diesel models use the 4N14 2.2-liter in-line 4-cylinder turbocharged MIVEC engine with a very low compression ratio of 14.9:1 that meets stringent European diesel emission regulations.
The diesel Outlander (2WD drivetrain, 4N14 engine with 6-speed manual transmission) will provide a superior level of environmental performance with target CO2 emissions of under 130 g/km*2 thanks to MMC's Auto Stop&Go idle-stop system and its lighter body that stems from optimization of the body structure, the use of high-tensile strength paneling and from improved aerodynamics. Furthermore, the new Outlander will be equipped with an "eco-friendly driving system" that notifies the driver when he or she is driving at maximum efficiency. With this system, the driver can choose to drive at maximum efficiency to enhance actual fuel consumption of the vehicle.
*1: Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system (name for engines fitted with Mitsubishi Motors' variable valve timing system).
*2: Target for European model that is subject to final homologation. Models for other countries may differ according to local homologation.
(2) Enhanced levels of safety borne from advanced safety technologies
The new Outlander offers outstanding safety through the use of the following advanced safety technologies:
FCM (Forward Collision Mitigation System): Detects obstacles on the road ahead of the car and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision.
ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control System): Operates to maintain a safe distance between the car in front even at very low speeds experienced in heavy traffic congestion.
LDW (Lane Departure Warning System): Functions to warn the driver that their vehicle is about to depart from its lane.
(3) High-quality, user-friendly interior
The new Outlander's interior expresses quality with the use of a glossy black instrument panel, the switches decorated with silver accents and the use of soft-touch dashboard trim material. The new Outlander also features easily-operable steering wheel controls together with high-resolution and easy-to-read instrument displays.
The comfortable second- and third-row seats can be easily configured to provide a number of seating patterns and also a long luggage space with a flat floor.
A power-operated tailgate facilitates loading and unloading.

During fiscal 2012 Mitsubishi Motors will also be adding to its lineup an EV-based Outlander model which will use a plug-in hybrid system derived from MMC's already existing EV technology.

2012 Mitsubishi i (i-MiEV) Named #1 on American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Annual “Greenest Vehicles” List [US]
2012 Mitsubishi i Named #1 on American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Annual “Greenest Vehicles” List
Cypress, California, February 8, 2012 – Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA), and the 2012 Mitsubishi i – the Japanese auto manufacturer’s affordably-priced all-new 100% electric-powered vehicle (EV) ̶ have taken the top spot on the coveted American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) 14th annual “Greenest Vehicles” list, a comprehensive environmental ranking for production vehicles.
The 2012 Mitsubishi i scored a 58 in the ACEEE’s ranking system – the highest Green Score ever achieved since the ACEEE “Greenest Vehicles” rankings began in 1998.
“Even taking into account the emissions generated from the electricity used to power the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, it still handily outscores other vehicles on the market today,” said ACEEE Lead Vehicle Analyst, Shruti Vaidyanathan.
According to the ACEEE, the cars that make up their “Greenest Vehicles” list are evaluated on a variety of criteria including tailpipe emissions, fuel consumption, and gas emissions that “contribute to climate change.” Additionally, starting with this year’s awards, the ACEEE made a number of changes to its vehicle evaluation methodology to more accurately estimate vehicles’ environmental impacts including improving emissions estimates in the vehicle manufacturing process as well as in the extraction of natural gas.
“Earning a spot on the ‘Greenest’ list is proving to be a real challenge for automakers given the variety of technologies on the market and the proliferation of highly efficient conventional vehicles,” said Vaidyanathan. “Just using the latest technology does not guarantee a top spot.”
The “Greenest Vehicles” and “Greener Choices” lists appear in the ACEEE’s Green Book® Online. The Green Book® Online, according to the ACEEE, is an “annual ranking that highlights the environmental friendliness of vehicles in the United States.” Only the twelve highest-ranked vehicles by the ACEEE make it onto the organization’s “Greenest Vehicles” list.

MMC will not allocate a new model for NedCar from 2013 and beyond
Mitsubishi Motors' Makes Decision on NedCar
Tokyo , February 6, 2012 – Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced it has made a decision that it will not allocate a new model at its subsidiary European production site Netherlands Car B.V. (NedCar) for production from 2013 and beyond.
NedCar currently produces Colt and Outlander models designated for sales in MMC's European market. However, in December 2010, MMC had made decisions regarding future treatment of NedCar's production operation. Specifically:
To terminate the local production operation of Colt at the end of 2012.
KD production of Outlander will be maintained until the end of 2012, but whether a replacement model to be allocated for production from 2013 and beyond or not is yet to be determined.
To further examine measures which would enable production operation at NedCar to continue from 2013 and beyond.
Based on the decision, MMC, together with the stakeholders including NedCar management and its labor union, its work council, as well as the Dutch government, had proceeded until today examining measures for the continuation of production operation at NedCar.
However, due to the wildly fluctuating operating environment which automobile manufacturers currently face, MMC could not come up with a reasonable solution to utilize NedCar among MMC's global production operation structure and thus MMC has concluded it is not viable to allocate a new production model at NedCar.
Europe is and will continue to be an important market for MMC and production and delivery of models for Europe from Japan and Thailand will continue; thus MMC's model mix and after-service structure will not change at all.
The status of NedCar from 2013 and beyond is yet to be decided, and talks among those concerned are to commence from hereon.
Outline of Netherlands Car B. V.
1. Location: Born, Limburg, the Netherlands
2. Capitalization: EUR 250,012,000
3. Shareholder: MMC group 100%
4. Board members: Chairman & CEO: Mr. Tetsuro Miki
President & COO: Mr. Joost Govaarts
5. Number of employees: approx. 1,500
6. Corporate history:
Started as a three-way joint venture in 1991 through MMC, Volvo, and the Dutch government. MMC became the sole shareholder when it bought all the remaining shares from its partners in March of 2001.
NedCar produced MMC's Carisma from 1995, then afterwards the Space Star. Currently it produces the European-market Colt and Outlander. Local parts procurement is 85% for the Colt, and 20% for the Outlander.
NedCar has produced a cumulative 1.1 million MMC vehicles to the present time.

2013 Mitsubishi Outlander to be revealed at 2012 Geneva Auto Show
2012 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW A NEW LOOK…
For the first time, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has decided to select the most demanding European market as global launch pad for an all-new vehicle. Next March, the Geneva Motor Show will see the world premiere of a strategic and innovative premium vehicle, to be retailed sequentially during 2012 – a car of substance that will reflect a gradual transformation in Mitsubishi’s design language.
2013 Mitsubishi Outlander |
Next generation
This unveiling will confirm the start of an all-new generation of global products for Mitsubishi Motors, consistent with the ambitions set in MMC’s “Jump 2013” business plan for a greener and more global Mitsubishi. Fittingly, this complete family of cars / crossovers / SUVs will see a gradual transition to a re-focused design language.
A tradition of engineering
This re-focused design language, while still being formulated, is envisaged as an open design concept, meant to be flexible enough to suit specific vehicle requirements whilst staging Mitsubishi’s famous Three Diamond logo accordingly. Refined yet assertive, this new engineering-driven look can be understood as the new expression of Mitsubishi’s near century old tradition of technology tailored for today’s world – the one that recently brought i-MiEV, the 4N1 Clean Diesel engine, Green Plastics and the same one that will bring innovative proprietary PHEV technologies next year, based on MMC’s state-of-the-art electric vehicle know-how that led to i-MiEV, prior to other future significant breakthroughs…
